These birds are beginning to be more scarce because they originate in a part of the world that is infested with "bird flu".  As a result, they seem to be very difficult to obtain for resale and are only available from breeders.  This species is also known as the Red Munia and Red Avadavat.  The male has a very soft but beautiful song.

In the photo the male is obviously in the foreground.  This particular specimen is not particularly colored out.  In the mating season, the male becomes much more brilliant in his plumage.
