| An
excellent choice for the beginner in finch aviculture. When
placed with similarly good natured birds a pleasant community can be
formed. The male can be distinguished from the hen quite
easily. In the photograph, the male is behind the hen.
Notice that his face has considerably more red color, extending
further onto the forehead.
Like most finches, they can subsist
on a seed diet. While it is not essential to their well being,
they have been known to take live food such as meal worms or wax
worms. Generally they are good parents, and will sometimes set
up housekeeping if a nest is offered.
