Size Length Male 6" (15 cm) Female 4-1/2" (11.5 cm)
The male of this species is very striking in color.  They are also known as the nonpariel finch.  Extremely active birds that need lots of flying room.  Certainly no collection of parrot finches would be complete without a pair of these birds.

It is fairly obvious that the male is sitting in front of the hen.  While being an attractive bird, the female does not compare to the rainbow of colors that adorn the male.  In good feather, the male will sport a very long tail.
