Size Length 5" - 5-1/2" (12.5 - 14 cm)
Closely related to the Shafttail and the Owl finch, these birds stand out in a crowd with their brightly colored yellow beak.  Very gentle birds, they project an aura of calm with their peaceful behavior.

Like the Shafttail finch, the male and female birds are very similar in coloring.  But the males of both species have one thing in common - their long tail.  In fact, the male Masked finch has a two-pronged tail although not to the extent of his larger counterpart.  The male is standing in front of the hen in the photograph.
