known as the Long Tailed finch or Grassfinch. These birds are
a natural next step for hobbyists moving up from Zebra and Society
finches. They are extremely hardy and disease resistant.
Having a pleasant song, they are a good addition to a community
aviary. Unlike the smaller finches, these finches are very
composed and tend to remain on the perch for extended periods of
time. Given the opportunity and a proper nest, they are noted
for producing young. These birds will interbreed with the Fawn
Shafttail. In the photograph,
the hen stands behind the male. The most obvious feature that
separates the two sexes is the very long tail on the male bird. |
