Goldbreast Waxbill finch
Amandava subflava

Country of Origin Africa
Compatibility Should be housed with similar small finches
Difficulty of Breeding Moderate to advanced
Size Length 3-1/4" - 4" (9 - 10 cm)
Also known as the Zebra Waxbill finch.  Obviously these should not be confused with the common Zebra finch from Australia.  In recent years these beautiful little birds have become extremely scarce.  If it were not for the dedication of a limited number of experienced breeders we would not be able to enjoy their presence in our midst.

The male sits in front of the hen.  It is easily distinguishable because of the red brow above the eye.  The amount of gold color on the breast seems to vary in intensity from one bird to another.
