Difficulty of breeding For the advanced breeder.
Size Length 3-1/2" - 4" (9 - 10 cm)
Also known as the Tricolor Parrot finch.  These are among the smallest of the parrot finch family.  They are also probably the most colorful.  We have found them to be very hardy, although like most parrot finches, the male will pluck feathers from the back of the hen's head during mating.

The sexes are not difficult to distinguish.  In the photograph, the male is on the right.  His head feathers are darker and more iridescent than the hen, whose blue color could best be described as periwinkle.
