known as the Tricolor Parrot finch. These are among the
smallest of the parrot finch family. They are also probably
the most colorful. We have found them to be very hardy,
although like most parrot finches, the male will pluck feathers from
the back of the hen's head during mating.
The sexes are not difficult to
distinguish. In the photograph, the male is on the
right. His head feathers are darker and more iridescent than
the hen, whose blue color could best be described as
periwinkle. |
