European Goldfinch
Carduelis carduelis

Country of Origin Europe and Asia
Compatibility Best kept with own species.
Difficulty of breeding Moderate.
Size 5" - 6" (13 - 15.5 cm)
These are fairly active birds.  Their most unusual trait is their tendency to hang upside down from their perch.  Strikingly colorful, these birds have been mated with other species to produce various new types of canary.

The male (bottom of the photo) can be determined by the larger amount of color on the front of the face.
