Bronze Wing Mannikin finch
Lonchura cucullatus

Country of Origin Africa

Difficulty of breeding Moderate
Size Length 3-3/4" (9.5 cm)
Another of the very small finches.  These little birds are lots of fun to watch in colony groupings.  We have seen them stack into a pyramid of 12 to 15 birds with the stack being 3 to 4 birds high.  If you are looking for an inexpensive smaller bird for your collection, you would not go wrong with a pair of these.

It is somewhat difficult to determine the sex of these birds.  The primary difference is in the amount of gloss on the crown, with the male having more of the glowing green feathers in a strong light.
